Dermal Fillers & Injectables
Did you know that many visible signs of aging can be traced back to volume loss? As facial tissues thin out, lines become etched around the nose and mouth and cheeks look a little hollow. Dermal fillers can replace lost volume to help smooth wrinkles, plump the lips, and restore a more youthful appearance. Click here to learn all about injectable filler treatments.
Botulinum toxin type A is an injectable neurotoxin, better known under brand names such as Botox Cosmetic®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®. Neurotoxin treatments are the most popular single cosmetic procedure in the U.K. and are mainly used to smooth wrinkles that form as a result of facial movements. This treatment works by blocking nerve impulses to the muscles, causing them to relax. We associate ageing with the development and deepening of wrinkles and furrows in the skin. These lines may develop as a result of weakened dermal collagen from sun exposure or gravity.
Botulinum toxin type A can be used to reversibly smooth and soften these muscles. By relaxing these muscles the appearance of frown lines, smile lines and the wrinkles in the skin decrease, making you look younger again. The most commonly treated areas are crow’s feet, the furrows on the forehead and frown lines.
These injections can take up to 14 days to show. In most cases good results are usually obtained after a single injection. Sometimes in patients with very active facial muscles a second injection is necessary 2 weeks later. Patients can expect to have a result that lasts between 3 to 5 months.
